Thanks for supporting your favorite Castaway!

ARMANDO

  • Tours Completed: 2023-Ridiculous Stunt Tour

  • Team Role/Function: Merchandise organizer, and Runner Committee Chair

  • How did you become a Castaway? I responded to a post on IG looking for people to join the team. I met with our fearless leader Captain Eric Pino on Zoom a few days later. On that Zoom call, Eric kept sipping away on what appeared to be an adult drink. I took that as a sign this is where I belong.

  • Why are you a Castaway? Like so many of us, cancer has hit our family and friends. I lost my father, friends, family & framily to cancer. I do this for them.

  • What is your "essential gear" to be a good Castaway? Patience, determination, and a strong desire to make the world a better place.

  • Conch Republic Navy Rank: Haven’t had the honor of being inducted

  • Favorite Castaways moment: Delivering a check for $300K to Sylvester.  It was the culmination of our team’s dedication and hard work, and it really brought home the true meaning of our mission.

  • Favorite Castaways quote: If you make it fun, they will return.  I may have paraphrased this.

  • Tell us about your Family: I am married to a wonderful woman (Jenny) and have a stepson (Ethan) and a daughter (Emma).

  • Where are you from? Born and raised in Miami, FL

  • Where'd you go to high school? CCHS Class of 1991

  • Where'd you go to College/Grad School? FIU Class of 1999. I squeezed my 4 years of college into 8.

  • Where do you work? I tried to retire, but it seems I just work for my wife now.

  • Favorite music/artists: My taste in music is pretty varied. I like all kinds - rock, dance, top 40, latin, hip hop. I have never been a fan of country, but for some strange reason, it is starting to grow on me.

  • Favorite movies/genre: Goodfellas, Shawshank Redemption, My Cousin Vinny, Star Wars

  • Favorite books: I read a book once because OB made me do it for class - The Everglades: River of Grass. Can't believe I still remember that.

  • Personal Fun Fact: I somehow managed to save two lives. One was a human and the other was a dog.

  • How have I helped carry out the CAC mission of funding cancer research and honoring those who have fought the fight? Last year I supported our runners on their insane trek from Miami to Key West.  It was an eye-opening experience that I will hold near and dear forever.  I have also been fortunate to be able to take on additional roles including merchandise and committee chair of our running team.
